Augustine Sr., Keptin Peter Joe – 1932-2011 – ELSIPOGTOG, NB- Peter Joe Augustine 79, of Elsipogtog passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Regional hospital on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. Born in Elsipogtog (Big Cove) he was the son of the late Basil Joe and late Annie Tenas (Simon) Augustine. Peter Joe was a pastoral care worker for the sick and the dying in several aboriginal communities, and he was also a spiritual leader for over 60 years for wakes and funerals (traditional Micmac burials). He was the Keptin of the Micmac Grand Council of the Eastern Canada region for over 40 years, and was very proud to have lived to see the tradition being carried on by his eldest son; Keptin Noel Joe Augustine. Peter Joe will be sadly missed by his loving wife; Freda Augustine of Elsipogtog, three daughters; Gloria Ann Augustine of Elsipogtog, Marietta Augustine (Walter) of Elsipogtog and Elena Bernard (Jason) of Eskasoni, Five sons; Keptin Noel Joe Augustine (Eunice), Peter Joe Augustine Jr., Gary Joe Augustine (Eva), Brian Joe Augustine (Carla), Paul Joe Augustine (Carline) all of Elsipogtog, twenty nine grandchildren and forty eight great grand children and three great great grandchildren, one sister; Mary Jo Joseph (late Vincent) of Elsipogtog also several nieces and nephews. Peter Joe was predeceased by four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his sister; Philomene Levi, and two brothers; Leo Joe Augustine and John Joe Augustine. Visitation at his home at 103 Main Street, Elsipogtog began, December 25th, 2011. Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, December 27th, 2011, St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Elsipogtog. Interment was held in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ste. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, Elsipogtog would be appreciated by the family. Raymond Gregory Doucette, 76 of 312 Esplanade, passed away suddenly Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at his residence. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Stephen and Mary (Vincent) Doucette. He was a member of Sacred Heart and St. Ann, Membertou parishes. He was a longtime 3rd degree member of the KOC Council 1060. Ray was well known for many years as a photographer having owned and operated Raytel Photograhphy in Sydney. A devoted Catholic, Ray was involved in both his Membertou and Sydney communities, especially the Membertou Elders and Membertou 55+ Club. He is survived by a nephew Raymond Doucette of Membertou and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by three sisters in infancy and two brothers, Roy and Douglas. There was no visitation. Francis-Leger, Jessie River Lynn – 2006-2011 – ELSIPOGTOG, NB- It is with very heavy hearts that the family announces the tragic accidental passing of Jessie River Lynn Francis-Leger, age 5, on December 15, 2011. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of Matthew Leger and Tricia Francis. Jessie will be sadly missed by her loving parents; Matthew and Tricia, paternal grandparents; William and Glenda Leger of Fords Mills, maternal grandparents; Leon Francis and Rosie Augustine of Elsipogtog, one sister; Paige Francis and two brothers; Harlan Milliea and Brayden Leger, great grandmothers; Rita Augustine and Betha Flanagan, God parents; Chalio Sark (Morley) and Nick Flanagan (Andrea), seven uncles; Roger Francis, Patrick Francis, John Francis, Todd Francis, Jeremiah Francis (Stephanie) all of Elsipogtog, Josh Leger of Fords Mills and Shawn Nichilson of Riverside, Moncton also several great aunts, uncles and cousins. Jessie was predeceased by her great grandmother; Emily Leger and her aunt; Cherro Francis. She rested at her home at 9108 Route 116 Elsipogtog visitation began on,  December 17, 2011. Howe, Eleanor Joyce – 78, Sheet Harbour, died Saturday, December 3, 2011 in Eastern Shore Memorial Hos­pital, Sheet Harbour. Born in Upper Falmouth, August 14, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Calvin Henderson and Thelma (Benedict, Henderson) Maddox. Eleanor loved a good book, winning scratch tickets and a lucky game of bingo. JEANS, Donald Vincent “Donnie” – 61, Indian Brook, passed away in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, on December 6, 2011. Born in Halifax he was a son of Donald and Jean (MacDonald) Jeans. Donnie was in the flooring business for over 30 years, a fisherman for Indian Brook Fisheries. He also was a volunteer for Minor Hockey. Donnie loved to cook, barbeque and loved to dance. He was known as “Grumpy Grampy” by the grandchildren. Donnie is survived by his loving companion Mary Jane Brooks, daughters Tracy (Daniel) Moser, Milford; Tammy (Brad) Corbett, Halifax; stepchildren Cerena Brooks, Andrea Lopez both of Indian Brook; John Brooks, Millbrook; Peter Brooks and Carson Brooks both of Indian Brook; several grandchildren, sister Donna (Mark) Race, Windsor; nieces and nephews. MacKay, Alana Brittany – 22, Millbrook passed away January 9, 2012. Born August 2, 1989 in Truro, she was a daughter of Sylvia “Arlene” Martin and John Francis MacKay. Alana was a loving mother, daughter and sister. She is survived by children, Kiera Ava MacKay and Daniel John MacKay; siblings, Melanie Martin, Hollie Martin, Leon Somerville, Vance Martin; grandparents, Doris Abram, Katherine “Cookie” Leslie and John C. Maloney, Eric Floyd – 51, Barons, Alta., passed away December 22, 2011, at his home in Barons, Alta. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Josephine (Maloney) Prosper and the late Edgar Stephens. He is survived by sons, Nicholas Martin, Waycobah and Seth Maloney, Indian Brook; grandchildren Paris, Houston, Malaki, Chellis, Lamika, Selena and Takisha; sisters, Priscilla Gould, Gail Prosper, Mavis Prosper and Jennifer Prosper, all of Eskasoni. Mary Ann (Paul) Marshall “ Grandma Kennedy” of Eskasoni, passed away on Saturday, December 10 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born June 13, 1939 in Truro, she was a daughter of the late George and Catherine (Sylliboy) Paul. Mary Ann’s shining moment in her life was when she proudly graduated from St. FX University with her Bachelor of Education and she also received her Bachelor of Arts from Cape Breton University. She was a Grand Council flag carrier and a member of the Eskasoni Women’s Auxiliary, Adult Care Worker, Welfare Officer, Foster parent. She retired from the Eskasoni School Board where she had been employed as a teacher. She is survived by her loving husband Joe B. ; children, Jay (Paula), Eleanor “Doody” (Barry), George “Tex” (Janean), Yolanda Babes (Leon); sisters, Janet, Eleanor, Murdena, Virginia (Gino), Sharon, Patsy, Matilda; brothers, George, Peter, Ryan, Jackie and baby brother Gubby; 18 Grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and her special maid Kelly Susan. Besides her parents she was predeceased by sisters, Georgina “Francho” Stevens; brother, Keith and grandson Stephen. Mary Ann was Grandma to ALL.
