Tripartite Forum Annual General Assembly 2012

The Mi’kmaq – Nova Scotia – Canada Tripartite Forum took time to celebrate its 15th anniversary during its 9th Annual General Assembly. Most of the Forum’s members and its Chiefs joined in the celebrations and presentations on May 31 and June 1, 2012 at the Old Orchard Inn in Wolfville, NS.

Day one began with an opening prayer by recently retired Chief of Glooscap First Nation, Shirley Clarke. A welcoming smudge was offered by Nathan Sack. Candy Palamter, the special guest emcee on day one, offered opening remarks and welcomed everyone to the event before turning the floor and microphone over to Membertou’s Dan Christmas. Dan, who was involved with Tripartite’s establishment in the 1990s, offered an informative and enlightening presentation on the Forum’s development process dating back to the 1989 Marshall Inquiry.

Members then heard a series of committee presentations that focused on successful projects that have benefited Mi’kmaq communities through funding from the Tripartite Forum’s Fund for Social and Economic Change. Following the first set of committee presentations, members were introduced to special invitees, the Millbrook Warriors Lacrosse team, and a second special presentation.
