On July 12th, Indian Brook was involved in “Buzz the Fuzz” a head shaving for cancer event. After hearing of Eskasoni’s successful fundraiser, the people of Indian Brook were eager to show their support. Cancer is a huge issue in native communities and hopefully with the help of all the First Nation reserves we will one day have a cure. Indian Brook had a fantastic turn out with 74 people shaving their heads or donating their hair for pledges. From pledges, donations and “Buzz the Fuzz” T-shirt sale, Indian Brook raised $6590.00 and donated 15 bags of hair in the 2 hour event. All the hairdressers generously volunteered their time and their fancy clipper/scissor work and without them this wouldn’t have been possible. Special thanks go out to Marcella Hiller, Jacklyn Paul, Miles Augustine, Lisa Googoo, Sharon Paul, and Karen Francis for cutting hair. Thanks to Joan Paul for donating all the healthy snacks and to Jim Nevin for donating the awesome t-shirts. This event was planned and carried out by Elle Michael and Helena Sack along with the support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
