Every year, on Treaty Day, Mi’kmaq elders are honored and recognized for their great achievements and contribution to the Mi’kmaq Nation through the Grand Chief Donald Marshall Senior Elder Achievement Award. The recipient of the award are nominated by Mi’kmaw community members and recommended to the Province of Nova Scotia by the Treaty Day committee in cooperation with the Mi’kmaq Grand Council.

The Treaty Day Communications group highlighted past recipients Helen Sylliboy (2010 Recipient) and Sister Veronica Mathews (2011 Recipient) from Eskasoni and asked them a few questions upon receiving the Senior Elder Award.
