Annapolis Valley First Nation.

The Project Fund supported the Nova Scotia First Nations Lacrosse Program which held Try Lacrosse sessions in 12 Mi’kmaw communities. Try Lacrosse introduced the game to participants, created awareness and taught basic lacrosse skills.

Participants continued learning by participating in regional sessions held in Eskasoni, Waycobah, Pictou Landing, Millbrook, and Annapolis Valley. The Regional Sessions taught game and leadership skills, and helped develop leaders, confidence and the benefits of being active. The Tripartite Forum Lacrosse subcommittee will continue implementing lacrosse programs and activities in Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw communities. Over 200 Mi’kmaq youth participated in both the Try Lacrosse and the Regional Sessions.

The Try Lacrosse and Regional Sessions were coordinated and facilitated by coaches Kevin Sandy and Kristen Ezard, Sara-Lynne Knockwood, Jim Hepworth and Julien Hepworth. For more information on Try Lacrosse or the Regional Sessions, contact Jim at jim@cmmns.com or Sara-Lynne at s_knockwood@hotmail.com. A special thank you is extended to all the communities and volunteers for their help and support.
