Major changes are taking place on the banks of the Miramichi River at Eel Ground First Nation. Eel Ground has developed an economic strategy aimed at taking advantage of the business opportunities surrounding its commercial fishery. Vital to the development of their fishery, Eel Ground has developed a strategic set of business plans. By implementing these business plans Eel Ground established the first Aboriginal fishery cooperative in Atlantic Canada and has diversified its fishery operations to include a retail power center.
