A week long course Teaching Mi’kmaq as a Second Language (TMSL) level A1 was developed by Mi’kmaw linguist, Dr. Stephanie Inglis Associate Professor of Mi’kmaq Studies at Cape Breton University’s Unama’ki College. The pilot offering of the first level (A1) of the six level, TMSL Certification Program was held at Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey (Mi’kmaw Education Authority) in Membertou.
