Over three hundred delegates, nearly double the foreseen amount crowded into the Vancouver Island Convention Centre in Nanaimo, British Colombia on October 2-4, 2012, to attend the second National Aboriginal Fisheries Forum (NAFF II). This followed the NAFF I conference held in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in March, 2011. The theme for the Nanaimo conference was “Seize the Economic Opportunities.” A strong spirit of cooperation dominated the three day event as Aboriginal fisheries and aquaculture leaders from every region joined with industry experts and government representatives to discuss ways in which to ensure sustainable economic growth for First Nations commercial fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
