On Nitap Day, September 23rd, we welcomed Eric to our school. He was here to speak to our students about the Harlem Globetrotters ABC’s of Bullying Prevention.

This program focuses on Action, Bravery, and Compassion.

Eric is a retired basketball player. Before his retirement, “Air Canada” as he was nicknamed, played with the Halifax Rainmen (2007-2012) and the Saint John Millrats (2013-2105). Eric was born and raised in the United States. When he was younger, he was bullied and then became a bully. He knows what it is like from both sides, so with his basketball skills, his sense of humour, and his caring demeanour, Eric aims to help students to NOT be bullies, but to help others and maintain their focus on their education. “If the students are focused on their goals, they will less likely be bullies.”

During the presentation, Eric invited students, and staff, to participate. There was a lot of laughter, and some pretty nice trick shots. And might I add, Eric not only was kind enough to have his picture taken with students/staff, but he was pretty good on his hover board. We look forward to having him come for another visit in the future.

Finally, we would like to thank Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey for organizing the event.
