A relatively new holiday in Nova Scotia, Heritage Day is an opportunity to acknowledge and honour the contributions of the many cultures that make Nova Scotia so unique. As part of the celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, Heritage Day 2017 recognized the accomplishments and contributions of the Mi’kmaw people.

One of the events that took place was a Hockey Heritage Classic two game series, played in Membertou and Millbrook. Approximately 500 people came out to watch the games, which featured Mi’kmaq Chiefs and Council taking on the Provincial government of Nova Scotia. The Chief and Council team, Co-Captained by Chief Leroy Denny and Chief Mike Sack, also featured Chief Norman Bernard and Chief Bob Gloade.
