Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey, in partnership with Treaty Education Nova Scotia held a creative art contest beginning in October. Students from all schools across Nova Scotia were asked to submit stories, artwork, poems or songs on the importance of treaties and Mi’kmaq culture.

The contest closed on November 30 and approximately 50 entries were received. Poet Laureate Rebecca Thomas, and national award winning artist Gerald Gloade were asked to judge the submissions. They were very impressed by all the entries but were able to narrow it down to the following winners:
