The second largest Mi’kmaw community in Nova Scotia, with over 2,500 Band members is the Sipekne’katik First Nation. Located less than 30 kilometres from Truro, Nova Scotia, this thriving community is rapidly building one of the most successful and sustainable commercial fisheries enterprises (CFE) in the Atlantic region.

Under the guidance of Fisheries Manager Brandon Maloney (APC Fisheries Manager of the Year in 2015), Sipekne’katik First Nation’s CFE has more than tripled in size in recent years. The most recent addition is the construction of a multi-functional compound facility completed in July of this year.

The 6500 square foot compound features a very large workshop which serves as an area for maintenance and repairs of fishing gear and equipment. It also doubles as a space where many community events are anticipated to be held in the future. Adjacent to the ...
