Broads with Rods Fishing Weekend

May 24, 2014 was the day that an epic adventure started for 6 women from the Glooscap First Nation. Gail Tupper, Natural Resources and Environment Officer scheduled an overnight fishing trip for the women staff of GFN. Part of Gails’ responsibilities is to bring awareness surrounding fishing to community members. What better way to do this but to get people out fishing. This event took place at the Sunken Lake Scout Camp which is located in the Annapolis Valley. On Saturday, the women did some trout fishing with regular rod and reel. First time fisher, Amanda Peters was the only person to catch a trout and it measured 11 inches. Later on in the day, Charlotte Warrington was able to pull in a catfish. The girls enjoyed a barbeque for supper and had a small campfire. On Sunday, everyone tried their hand at fly-fishing. This turned out much harder than it seemed.
