With funding support granted by Community Food Centres Canada, the Millbrook Early Education Centre and Millbrook Health Centre teamed up to celebrate Apuknait on Saturday, January 29th, 2022. Traditionally, Apuknajit brought ancestors together to share food, stories and to help each other through the hardest conditions of winter. In recognition of the interconnectedness of all things, ancestors honoured and celebrated Apuknajit, not only praising thanks, but asking that the winter spirit be kind and provide comfort until the spring, when fishing, hunting and harvesting became less challenging. With overwhelming support from volunteers and staff, 180 food hampers were made possible for the community during one of the worst snow storms of 2022.
