Before the Europeans landed on our shores, the Mi’kmaw people lived in and enjoyed beautiful Appalachian Forest, here in Epekwitk, PEI, and the rest of Mi’kma’ki. On Sunday April 24, 2016, history was made as we replanted some of the species of that Appalachian Forest at my place in Johnston’s River.

We began with a Sacred Ceremony of thanksgiving to the Great Spirit, for all the gifts of Mother Earth. Following the Ceremony we began planting the trees, which were given to us by Stephen Manley, a professional forester who is a person that has devoted his life to the searching for and preserving genetic diversity of the Appalachian Forest that was once here.
