Government will focus on the province’s cultural sector, creative economy and diverse communities with Nova Scotia’s Culture Action Plan: Creativity and Community, launched on, Feb. 22.

Nova Scotia’s first comprehensive Culture Action Plan, focuses on six themes which provide government with specific actions, strategic priorities and criteria to help guide decision-making.

“Our culture is what makes us unique. It is a competitive advantage we must celebrate, invest in, expand and export,” said Premier Stephen McNeil. “Culture connects us as people, it makes us stronger and helps us to build a province where all people have the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
The themes are:

  • Promote Mi’kmaw culture;
  • Promote creativity and innovation;
  • Strengthen education;
  • Partnerships and understanding;
  • Advance cultural diversity;
  • Excellence in cultural stewardship; and
  • Drive awareness and economic growth of the culture sector.

The plan will bring to life the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage’s mandate of contributing to the well-being and prosperity of Nova Scotia’s diverse and creative communities through the promotion, development, preservation and celebration of the province’s culture, heritage, identity and languages.
