The Board of Directors continues to further empower the Mi’kmaw nation through its youth by delivering on educational initiatives that exemplify the pride, respect and spirit of the communities we represent.

Please note that this position may be located in any of the MK communities (with the agreement of the community). Applications are therefore encouraged from all areas of the province.

Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey is currently seeking applicants for the position of Treaty Education Lead. Mi’kmaq and Provincial government officials are developing specific treaty education programs and services for the education system, the provincial civil service and the broader public. The Treaty Education lead is responsible for guiding and managing this collaborative work, while growing and fostering new partnerships to allow the treaty education movement to expand.

The successful candidate will have a baccalaureate degree in a related area such as indigenous history, political science law or public administration. B.Ed. required. A graduate degree is an asset. Candidates with a different combination of formal education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and TRC Calls to Action. Fluency in Mi’kmaw is an asset.

Mi’kmaw Community Sport Liaison

Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey is currently seeking applicants for the position of Mi’kmaw Community Sport Liaison. The role of the Mi’kmaw Community Sport Liaison is to assist and implement initiatives, while providing leadership in the area of sport and recreation to First Nation Communities in Nova Scotia. The incumbent will work with communities to strengthen capacity and to provide sport and fitness opportunities for youth, and also organize events to help build capacity for aboriginal sport. 

The successful candidate will have a four year college or university degree with experience in education, kinesiology or physical education. Minimum of four years experience in Education, Health, or Administration with a demonstrated understanding of sport development methodology. Fluency in Mi’kmaw an asset.
