December 5, 2013 – Bishopville, NS: Chief Sidney Peters and the Council of Glooscap First Nation (GFN) are staying true to their promise that community economic development will be a key priority during their term.

In April 2014, the band will form a new, independently-run Corporation that will have the singular purpose of improving the economy and stainability of GFN, a 340-person community located just outside Hantsport, Nova Scotia.

“I campaigned on the promise of greater transparency and more efforts being invested in economic development,” Chief Peters says. “But this isn’t just about keeping that promise, it’s about a long-term vision of elevating Glooscap to be a prosperous, spirited community where all of our members have the opportunity to thrive. This is the start of a new era.”

The mandate of this new entity is to manage and expand the current economic development base of Glooscap. It will also be focused on building partnerships with neighbouring municipalities, businesses and organizations in order to benefit the entire region and to create a sustainable, thoughtful change in the Glooscap community.

In preparation for the launch, the Glooscap First Nation Economic Development Corporation have hired three staff members and appointed a Board of Directors. This powerhouse complement includes:
