It was a beautiful day to raise a Teepee and that’s what happened in Milford NS at the Hants East Rural High School. With help of Gary Joseph of Indian Brook First Nation and the Grade 10 Mi’kmaw Studies students, a Teepee was erected in honour of Mi’kmaw History Month.

The idea was brought forward by Velvet Paul of the Sipekne’katik Education Department and was realized with the help of student Advisor Shawn Maloney and Chief Mike Sack, also from Sipekne’katik.

The Teepee will stay up for a week and be used as a learning tool for the students at HERH. October 1st kicks off Mi’kmaq History Month and this was a great way to allow the students as well as others to enjoy and learn more about the Mi’kmaw culture.
