Potlotek Education has had a busy year with various projects focused on further advancing the skills of our students.

Potlotek Education was successful in receiving a grant through NIB entitled Askulapi aq Ikanapi (I Look Back and I Look Forward).

“Our students have had a chance to connect with Elders and learn from them, but also to learn alongside them.”
The program’s main objective was the promotion of the Mi’kmaw culture, language, history and identity by delivering an education program and engaging students to learn traditional knowledge. Land-based activities were coordinated and delivered by or alongside Elders and Residential School Survivors. Additional language classes were implemented at the local high school and students had the opportunity to attend an Audio Recording and Production course.

As a result of the NIB Grant we were able to set up a student led Radio Station and also a Video Production team of students. This has allowed us to apply for funding to run programs that will see our students produce short documentaries while learning about our history.
