After the culvert removals.

The Mi’kmaw Conservation (MCG) Culvert Project team had a successful September!

One of the key tasks this year was to have a number of deteriorated culverts removed from Bear Brook.
These culverts were no longer allowing water flow and were blocking fish habitat. At the beginning of September, Benere Contracting removed the deteriorated culverts and reinforced the banks with gravel and hay. It was fantastic to see any area that was previously a barrier to fish movement now allow for continuous water flow and access to habitat.

Progress has also been made on the remediations! So far, 4 culverts out of the proposed 10 have been remediated. This means that either chutes, or chutes and baffles, have been installed.
