In our Communities, we’ve been fortunate to have had minimal wildfires. Due to climate change, there is an increased potential for more wildfire occurrences within our Communities. Over 95% of wildfires in our region are started by people, but our changing climate can contribute to the potential for forests to be more susceptible to ignite and be more difficult to put out.

The emergency preparedness project last year (2017-2018) helped identify certain emergency events/hazards (both natural and human induced) concerns within Communities. Many of these events have been identified due to their frequency within our communities. Wildfires, although not very frequent in our Communities, had been identified as a major concern due to the potential impact they could have.
