In July, the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs, comprised of all 13 Mi’kmaw Chiefs in Nova Scotia, launched their new logo.

The Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs (Assembly) is an organization that has evolved over the years. In earlier days, the Nova Scotia Chiefs, as a collective, were simply called “all Chiefs” in meetings, which were chaired by the Executive Directors of the Tribal Councils (Union of Nova Scotia Indians and The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq). While, the Chiefs met on an issue-by-issue basis, as time passed the Chiefs recognized that they needed the authority to pass resolutions, on global issues affecting all Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia, in a formal way and the need to meet more regularly.
