CMM staff at PLFN’s Fisheries Compound loading reef balls onto the truck for deployment.

On November 20th, Clean Coasts teamed up with staff from the Mi’kmaw Conservation Group (MCG) and The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (CMM) to deploy 40 reef balls at Sitmu’k (Moodie Cove) in Pictou Landing First Nation (PLFN). Reef balls are hollow concrete domes with holes throughout that act as artificial reefs used to create or restore marine habitat. Having completed restoration at Marshall’s Crossing and Brule Shore, Sitmu’k is the last site to be restored for Clean Coast’s Northumberland Strait Coastal Restoration Project!
