Last month, the Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (CMM) started the “Let’s Talk Aquatics: Marine virtual Series”. This online series is free, and it includes two sessions in the month of January and February. This series is focused on learning, discussing, and sharing information about specific marine related topics. Presentations will be given by guest speakers. The following is an overview of the sessions scheduled for February;

February 3rd, 2021 – 10 am to 12 pm – Places of Refuge for Vessels:

  • When a vessel needs to be docked or stationed in a non-emergency situation a request can be submitted to access a Place of Refuge. This session gave an overview Places of Refuge initiative in the Atlantic region. *This session was held before the MMNN was printed.
    February 10th, 2021 – 10 am to 12 pm – Marine Oil Spill Response & Scenarios:
  • When there is a marine oil spill, there are several steps that need to be followed for the respond to the incident. This session will explain the steps followed by the Canadian Coast Guard for responding to marine oil spills.
