Millbrook – Ulnooweg is expanding Indigenous educational initiatives through the Ulnooweg Education Centre. The purposes of this charitable organization are to advance education in Indigenous communities in Canada.

To accomplish the purposes, in summary, the Education Centre will offer financial and strategic education and support to Indigenous community leaders, develop and deliver programs for Indigenous youth and adults related to career opportunities, health, culture and language, and conduct research into social, economic, and development needs and opportunities of Indigenous communities.

Chris Googoo, Chief Operating Officer for the Ulnooweg Education Centre states, “Education for Indigenous peoples in Canada has had a complex history. Colonial practices, the residential school system, the 60s scoop, and other systemic barriers have caused loss of connection to culture, language and identity. Through the Ulnooweg Education Centre, we aim to offer programs that focus on culturally appropriate initiatives that value Indigenous ways of learning.”

Ulnooweg’s largely popular program Digital Mi’kmaq, which has been teaching STEAM programs including robotics and animation to Indigenous students in Nova Scotia, will now fall under the Ulnooweg Education Centre.
