by: Doodi Knockwood (Artist)/Allie Rivers (CMM) IPCA Project Coordinator

The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (The CMM) is supporting mainland Mi’kmaw communities in the development and establishment of Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) in mainland Nova Scotia (NS). The CMM commissioned Mi’kmaw artist Doodi Knockwood to create a comic that explores what an IPCA is and its importance to not only plants, animals, land, and water, but to Mi’kmaw culture, language, traditions, spirituality, and intergenerational knowledge transfer.

If you have any questions or would like to learn more about IPCAs in mainland NS, please feel free to contact Allie Rivers (arivers@cmmns-denr.ca), The CMM’s IPCA Project Coordinator, for more information.
