We were honoured to share pɨtewey (tea) and lunch with guest Elder Patsy Paul Martin of Millbrook NS who visited the Ulnooweg Team. Elder Patsy is a Mi’kwaw woman born and raised in her beautiful community of Eskasoni. She takes pride in coming from a huge extended family and her home is constantly a place of drop-in visits from friends and family both near and far.

She is a master speaker, reader and writer of the precious Mi’kmaw language and has spent a majority of her life in constant teaching, reclamation and reviving especially in the mainland where she married her love and has spent the last 50 years raising their family of four children, numerous grandchildren and now great grandchildren and has listed this as her greatest accomplishment.

Elder Patsy is more commonly known as Kiju to hundreds of little ones. She has, like custom in Mi’kmaw culture, takes the role of Kiju to many.
