The end of the school year is always an exciting time. Children express their excitement with shrieky giggles and laughter bubbling over into their play. Grading day will never not be a special day for everyone. After a couple of years of the pandemic, we had the opportunity to celebrate in person!

Graduates and guests were invited to a hot meal complete with dessert, courtesy of the always exceptional Lori Doucette and her team. The gym was beautifully decorated and the tables were set beautifully.

All of the awards were presented by Donna Johnson-Lameman, Director of Education, and Amanda Benoit, Director of Post Secondary Studies. Invited guests included our community elders, parents, Trevor Boudreau (MLA), Beverly Jeddore and Shara Johnson (MK) and Fr. Duncan.

A special award was introduced at the conclusion of the awards. My siblings and I decided to introduce an award that will honour our father’s contributions to carpentry. We designed an award that would be given to a student who is attending NSCC’s Carpentry Program. The deserving student will receive a monetary award of $1000 and a plaque indicating what the award is.

Our dad, John D. Johnson has worked in carpentry for the majority of his life. He began his training under the tutelage of his father, Richard Johnson, at the age of 12.
