We had the honour and privilege to sit with Elder Diana Denny who lives in the Mi’kmaw community of Eskasoni, Unama’ki NS who came and had some pɨtewey (bit-eh-whey) and shared her lived experiences with our team at Ulnooweg.

Diana is the daughter of the late Victor and Jesse (Sylliboy) Jeddore and is also the granddaughter of the Late Kji Saqmaw Gabriel Sylliboy. She is a mother of two, grandmother of five, great-grandmother of one and godmother of six. She is also a member of the Bear Clan.

She is a fluent speaker and writer of the Mi’kmaw language and worked for many years with Eskasoni Fish and Wildlife. Now retired, she is a regular participant in workshops and projects that include Mi’kmaw Traditional Knowledge.
