On behalf of the Atlantic First Nations Water Authority, we offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of Chief Tma Francis and the Paqtnkek community. Chief Tma was a strong and thoughtful leader, and his loss will be felt by many in the Mi’kmaw community.

August was another busy month for us at the Atlantic First Nations Water Authority. On August 15th we welcomed two new staff members, Controller Margie Hennigar and Procurement Officer Wanda Ralph. We now have 22 employees working out of our temporary offices in Millbrook and Truro. This month will be adding four new staff members the team in the following roles: a Planning and Development Engineer, a Safety and Security Coordinator, an IT Junior Coordinator and a second Utility Technologist. Our Communications and Outreach team is having a wonderful time on the powwow trail. We travelled to all three maritime provinces in August, where we set up our tent and table in Millbrook, Esgenoôpetitj and Lennox Island. It’s been great getting to talk to community members about the work we are currently doing and what we will be doing if their community officially signs on to be a full member of the water authority.
