September was supposed to be a busy month at the Atlantic First Nations Water Authority, but the death of Queen Elizabeth II followed by Hurricane Fiona put a damper on those plans.

Our team grew to 24 members with Alex Davis joining us as our new Planning and Development Engineer. Alex hails from Bay d’Espoir, Newfoundland, and is a member of the Miawpukek First Nation. He graduated from Dalhousie University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree specializing in Industrial Engineering. Before joining AFNWA, Alex worked at the Halifax offices of L3Harris Technologies, an aerospace and defence company. L3Harris provides in-service support for CP140 and supports several other aircraft avionic systems. Alex worked in Quality Assurance, where he was responsible for making sure projects, and their outputs met customer and end-user requirements and expectations. Alex is working out our Treaty Trail office in Millbrook with the rest of the Engineering Department.

Interim COO James MacKinnon and I kicked off the Labour Day long weekend by heading to beautiful Elsipogtog for their mawio’mi. We had some great conversations with community members about the work we are doing and passed out lots of swag items. The following weekend Verna Langley, AFNWA HR Generalist, and I headed to Unama’ki for Membertou’s mawio’mi.
