On Wednesday, October 25, the Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs Secretariat (APC) via the Atlantic Indigenous Economic Development Integrated Research Program (AIEDIRP) formally launched the Atlantic Indigenous Tourism Research Report (Report). This took place at the Millbrook Cultural and Tourism Centre in Millbrook First Nation. The Report highlights what’s ongoing in the region, what’s working, gaps and barriers, as well as recommendations and opportunities. The research contractor was BDO Canada, who worked with an advisory committee consisting of representatives of the Joint Economic Development Initiative, Saint Francis Xavier University, the Nova Scotia Indigenous Tourism Enterprise Network, and APC/AIEDIRP. The event was largely organized and promoted by public relations executive Mark Boudreau, along with AIEDIRP Administrative Assistant Lois Daye, BDO Canada, and APC/AIEDIRP. Funding for the report was provided by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

The Atlantic Indigenous Tourism industry includes almost 2,900 jobs, representing nearly $76 million in labour income. These jobs produce $108 million in gross domestic product for the Atlantic and over $225 million in revenues.
