November was a busy month for four First Nations Communities as they went to the polls and elected their Chief and Council. The first community to hold an election was Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation in which they elected a new Chief.  Paul James (PJ) Prosper defeated long time Chief Gerard Julien. MR. Prosper received 159 votes where as MR. Julien received 94 votes.  Also re-elected as Councillors were: David Francis (110), Anne Marie Paul (109), Robert Pictou (91), Kerry Prosper (108) and newly elected Councillor Darlene (Dolly) Prosper (94). There were 359 eligible voters in which 71% of the members voted. The new Chief and Council took office on February 2013.

On November 21/2013, Pictou Landing First Nation held their election in which Chief Andrea Paul was re-elected with a total vote of 151 ballots cast for her defeating Johnathan Beadle (62), Diane Denny (28), and Roderick Peter Francis (53).  Re-elected to Council were Crystal Denny (63), Dominic Denny (134), Wayne Denny (87), Anthony (Quise) Nicholas JR (60). Newly elected to council were Gordon Prosper (74) and Derek Francis (87).

Pictou landing had 420 eligible voters and had 293 members voted which is a 70% voters rate of the possible eligible voters. Chief and Council took office on November 30/2013.
