On November 11, 2013 members from the Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation gathered at the St. Anne’s church in Summerside to honour our Native Veterans who have sacrificed their lives and for those who have put themselves in harm’s way for our rights and freedoms.

As part of the Cape Breton University communications 2170 class, Professor Catherine Martin challenged her class to apply their teachings in the area of communications to expand and build on the annual event.

The group increased community participation in paying tribute and recognition to our veterans. As one of the primary organizers of the annual gathering John R. Prosper, was overwhelmed with pride at the commitment to the event and the new venue. The group not only expanded community involvement they provided an addition to the usual venue with an electronic slideshow and a Muriel honouring all sixteen veterans that were direct descendants of Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation.

In keeping with Paqtnkek tradition, a community feast was prepared, served and enjoyed by all those that attended the gathering.
